| Description | Arrangement of the materials before and after the growth process is depicted in (a,b), respectively. The rings with spikes are oriented like a spiral staircase in order to allow for nucleation at different positions with less intergrowth of the crystals. Formation of the largest α-Li2IrO3 single crystals is observed on spikes placed roughly 4 mm above the Ir starting material.
